morning of/before the beginning of the race

mmmmm, pancakes and scrambled eggs

just hanging out waiting for the LeMans Start

notice we're smiling now - things were different once the race began

he was happy and contented - then someone told him he was 1st!

2:49 minutes until the start - A "LeMans Start" consists of a 600 yard run to your bike and a few extra short loops around the starting area before heading out to the course (it is intended to spread the riders out a bit so the single-track course doesn't get so congested with riders right at the beginning)

there they go

Kevin is just under way

Kevin headed out to the 9.8 mile course

Elvis was on hand as usual - hard to tell here, but he's got a cape on, the glasses, the whole works - he's actually fast, too

Kevin coming in after lap 1

Joe heading out for lap one - he was so focused that he had time to lift a hand and pose for a photo!

Graham heading out for his lap 1 - at this point he still had his seat and pedal!

Michael heading out for his lap 1 - how does a guy who consistently rides sub 60-minute laps keep a smile on his face?

Torey and Kent - friends on another team

don't bikes usually have a seat and a pedal - hard to see, but there is no right pedal
(during lap 4 about 3-4 miles out, the pedal came off the stem - at that point he could rest his foot on it, coast down hills and run up inclines - a few miles later, because of his seat bearing the full load, it broke as well - how often do you have 2 major mechanicals in one ride? - he ran the entire last 3 miles or so of the course - in spite of all of that, he only lost just over 20 minutes off his normal lap time)

for the kids (in the background of the racers), there was a "24 Minutes" of Adrenaline - a cute event

so what do you want from a $4 disposable camera?

Michael after what he thought was going to be his last lap, lap 4 - hee, hee, hee - little did he know that later he'd be convinced by his "friends" to head out again to secure 9th place and knock off 2 other teams

Michael finishing a blazing 55 minute 5th lap to lock in 9th place of 36 teams

hmmm? i guess we are smiling after the race - we'll be back!
